What is the International Assignment Profile [IAP]?
The IAP is a multi-faceted process that gathers and organizes extensive information about a family anticipating international assignment and integrates it with information about the destinations to which they are being sent. It also provides the means of archiving this information for learning and future research. The IAP Report summarizes family information in a comprehensive, easily understood format identifying core issues which need to be addressed prior to departure.
Is the IAP a psychological test?
The International Assignment Profile gathers an enormous amount of information about the employee, spouse, and family, but it is NOT a traditional test. It contains some short scales that asses all the traits known through research and common sense to relate to cultural adaptability and adjustment to new locations. The entire process is guided by an advanced expert system, which only asks relevant questions, but can branch to "drill down" when needed.
Is the IAP a selection instrument?
The IAP is designed primarily as a preparation instrument to assist those selected for international assignment to prepare well for their destination. Our philosophy is that those selected for an assignment should be selected for business reasons, and then supported through the planning (and prevention) that the IAP allows. If, after completing the IAP, preparation seems too involved or too onerous, then the wisdom of the assignment may be questioned. Since the IAP compares families to SPECIFIC locations, it is possible to consider the family for a different location that might be more congruent with their needs or conditions. We like to say that the IAP screens candidates IN, rather than screening them out.
How does IAP gather the necessary information?
The information from the employee and family for the IAP Report is gathered by computer via an expert system (like a guided questionnaire). This is available on the internet to anyone who can connect to the web with a reasonably fast connection. The IAP recognizes the client company and the IAP can be customized to convey specific information. The applicants can work from home, office, on the road, and even switch locations to complete the IAP.
Our company FORBIDS anyone downloading software to our computers!
Can we still use the IAP?
ABSOLUTELY! The IAP runs in your browser (just like any web site) but CANNOT write anything to your disk. This is built into the JAVA language. Your responses are saved on OUR server disk, so nothing remains on your machine.
Does this mean my spouse and I have to complete the entire IAP in one sitting? NO. We assumed that people have to come and go, or sometimes get disconnected from the internet. Once you begin, the IAP saves your answers frequently, and will resume where you left off when you return.
Is there a paper version of the IAP? There is no paper version of the profile. The IAP branches and asks questions based on answers provided by the person providing the information in ways that a paper questionnaire could never do.
How long does it take to complete the profile?
Normally the questionnaire can be completed in approximately 35 minutes per section (there are two main sections) for employee and spouse (or second employee).
How long does it take from the completion of
profile information to report availability?
We provide a twenty-four hour turnaround! In emergencies or when time is short we email reports the same day data is received with hard copy report for next day delivery.
Is training available for those who utilize IAP reports?
Training on the use and interpretation of the IAP Report is available from IAP Systems.
Can we call for assistance on the interpretation of the IAP report?
Assistance from a qualified psychologist, clinical social worker, or professional counselor familiar with the IAP is always available to you for consultation, normally at no charge.
